Industrial: Setting Up The Global Header and Footer

Global content in a HubSpot website is a versatile element that can be utilized throughout the site, maintaining consistency wherever it appears. This content can take various forms, but it typically includes a header and a footer. Redwood themes follow this same principle.

Global Header

The featured image of this post displays the edit view of the global header. To access this, navigate to any page's edit view, hover over the header section, and click on it. A prompt will inform you that it is a global element. Proceed, and it will open the header editing area in a new browser tab. Click on the "Content" tab on the left to view all included modules. You will find the following:

  • Drag-and-Drop Areas: Above and below the default logo and navigation elements, there are drag-and-drop areas where you can easily add other elements as needed.

  • Utility Text: The theme has an optional Utility bar across the top, above the main header. This text field allows you to edit an area on the left side of the utility bar. The default has a linked phone number. Use it like that, or enter your company slogan, or leave it blank if you don't need it.
  • Utility Menu: On the right side of the Utility Bar is a menu. Select an existing HubSpot menu or click the link to create one. If you do not want a menu in this spot, simply do NOT select a menu here.
  • Utility Search: Two modules for site search are provided—one for the mobile navigation and one for the utility bar. Check the settings on these modules to ensure that search functionality meets your requirements.
  • Site Logo: There are two image fields available for uploading your desired site logo (if different from the current display). You can upload a logo for the regular desktop header and one for mobile navigation. These variations allow you to customize your logo based on background colors and size/layout.

  • Mobile Search: Two modules for site search are provided—one for desktop and another for mobile. Check the settings on these modules to ensure that search functionality meets your requirements.

  • Main Menu: Here, you can select which HubSpot menu to use in your header. If you haven't set up a menu yet, there is a button to create a new one. This theme supports submenu dropdowns and mobile navigation, which activates at screen widths of 991px or less.

Global Footer

Similar to the global header, you can click on the footer area of any page to open the edit panel for the footer. The entire footer is a drag-and-drop area. Once opened, click the "Contents" tab on the left to see the footer modules in use. You will find the following:

  • Redwood Logo: Choose the logo image you wish to display in the footer. You can link it to your home page if desired.

  • Contact Info: This rich text module defaults to displaying a contact button heading, followed by a button. Modify to say whatever you need it to!

  • Social Follow: This custom module allows you to easily set up links to your social media pages. Edit the module to add or remove accounts as needed and set up the links to your account pages.

  • Footer Menu: A simple menu module where you can create links in the footer section as required.

  • Copyright Text: This full-width text bar at the bottom of the footer typically contains a copyright line and links to elements like privacy policies.

Remember, you have complete editing control over this footer. If there are elements you do not want, you can simply delete them or replace them with something else. You can also add any additional modules from the left, adjust column widths, and add or remove columns as needed.

When you are finished, apply your changes to save. Click the Publish button in the top right corner to make your global changes live across your site.
